In HMC, project calls are a tool to foster the continuous development of the HMC community - the annual call is a key in activating and involving the Helmholtz community.
HMC Project Call 2024 - Proposal Support
The annual HMC project call funds cross-centre, interdisciplinary projects that address practical challenges in the field of metadata generation and data enrichment. The total budget for HMC projects is 1.2m€/year, financed by the Initiative and Networking Fund (INF). Funded Helmholtz Centres are required to co-finance the respective project by 50%.
HMC personnel support with networking and counsels on scope, implementation and generalisation of projects to ensure alignment with the HMC vision. Funded projects are regularly supported during the project phase and closely integrated with the personnel in HMC units. This creates knowledge and technology transfer and ensures integration of achieved results into the HMC portfolio.
Some Project Suggestions:
- consistent use of community agreed PID systems, e.g. DOI, ROR, ORCID, IGSN, PIDINst, DataCITE, DataTypes (e.g. http://typeregistry.org) or others.
- consistent semantic concepts, e.g. vocabularies or ontologies, blending into existing semantic systems or terminology services.
- containerization of metadata through Fair Digital Objects or Research Object Crates.
- interoperable APIs between data repositiories, allowing us to develop knowledge graphs across multiple repositories.
- Harmonized data handling processes across multiple Helmholtz Centres
- Metrics to evaluate FAIR-ification within Helmholtz
- Innovative education and training concepts
HMC Project Calls 2020 - 2024
On the page HMC project overview you will find an overview of all projects that have received funding within the HMC project call so far. From the four calls conducted, 28 projects are currently funded: 6 projects have been selected for funding in the fourth call in 2023, 7 in the third call in 2022, 6 projects in the second project call in 2021 and 9 in the first project call in 2020.
